Rep. Pettersen Statement on Swearing-In to Second Term

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) was sworn-in for her second term representing Colorado’s 7th Congressional District and released the following statement:

“It is the greatest honor of my life to represent our community in Congress—a place that gave me every opportunity I’ve had to build a better life. I’m incredibly grateful to the people of Colorado’s 7th Congressional District for continuing to put their trust in me.

“I am committed to working across the aisle when possible to address the urgent needs of our community, including lowering the costs of housing and child care and combating the opioid epidemic. However, I will fight back against attacks on our fundamental freedoms and will stand up to those who seek to undermine our rights and take us backward.”

Pettersen grew up in a working-class family in Jefferson County, Colorado, where she lives with her husband and son, Davis. She is also expecting her second son in a few weeks and will be the 14th Member in history to give birth while serving in Congress, including the first Member from Colorado.

Pettersen faced a lot of adversity as a kid but was able to persevere because of her access to great public schools and teachers—becoming the first in her family to graduate from both high school and college. That’s why she has dedicated her career to fighting to make sure others have that same chance. Pettersen served in the Colorado legislature for 10 years and will now begin her second term in Congress, continuing her fight to level the playing field for the hardworking families in her district.
