Today, U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen released the following statement after Senate Republicans and Democrats reached a short-term agreement to temporarily extend funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through a two-week continuing resolution (CR): “Our country is at a breaking point because of this administration’s illegal and fascistic actions — rogue agents are shooting and killing citizens in cold blood, ripping babies away from their parents, and breaking into homes without any warrant or due process. “I’m grateful Democrats in the Senate were able to start the negotiating process to prevent further immediate chaos, but that’s just the beginning of the complete overhaul we need of this rogue agency — starting with the removal of Kristi Noem — so we can finally have accountability and begin restoring public trust. “I voted against DHS funding, and I plan to vote against this continuing resolution. I will not give another dime to an agency that is terrorizing communities, violating the Constitution, and operating with zero accountability. “Some Republicans are finally speaking out, but we need more. Until there are real guardrails, real oversight, and real consequences for these abuses, I will continue to oppose funding for DHS and the lawless ICE operations we are witnessing.” Pettersen voted against funding for the Department of Homeland Security and has called for Secretary Kristi Noem’s removal. |
