With having to deal with the chaos in Washington, nothing makes me happier than being home in Colorado with my constituents. I know people are scared right now about what Trump’s policies will mean for you and your family. That’s why I’ve been on the road to hear directly from you and answer your questions about my work in Congress.
Here are some highlights from my recent trip to Fremont County:
Fremont County Town Hall
Thank you to everyone who joined our town hall in Cañon City to speak out and have your voices heard. I know many Coloradans, especially in our rural communities, feel overlooked by Washington, but I want you to know: I will always be a voice for our rural communities and fight for the support we need. At my town hall, I heard from Coloradans who are concerned about the Medicaid cuts coming from the Big Bad Bill.
Veterans Community Living Center
Our veterans gave so much for our country. It was meaningful to me to visit the Bruce McCandless Veteran Community Living Center. A third of their budget comes from Medicaid, and they’re incredibly worried about what it would mean to serve this community if they lose their Medicaid dollars. Veterans with the highest needs will be left with nowhere to go without this federal funding.
Please know I’ll never stop fighting until veterans get the care and support they deserve, especially in rural communities where resources are often too far out of reach.
Valley-Wide Health Center
Republicans’ budget will hurt everyone, but especially our rural communities, where care is already harder to access. I visited Valley-Wide Health Clinic in Cañon City to hear directly from healthcare providers about what these budget cuts will mean.
Trump’s bill will rip health care away from over 240,000 Coloradans, driving up costs for everyone and threatening to shut down clinics like this one. I adamantly opposed this disastrous legislation and will continue to do everything I can to protect clinics like Valley-Wide that serve as a lifeline for the most vulnerable people.
Meeting with BLM and US Forest Service Workers
While federal cuts jeopardize the employees who prevent wildfires and protect our public lands, I’ll keep fighting to protect them. I met with staff from BLM and the U.S. Forest Service. We discussed wildfire preparedness and staffing challenges. Our public lands drive our economy and are core to our way of life here in Colorado.
We fought back against Republicans’ attempt to sell off our public lands but thanks to people like you in Colorado and across the country, we were able to stop them.
